Abstract:
Alcohol consumption has seen sharp rise in India in last some time. In addition to the health risks it involves heavy socio-economic costs for the person consuming alcohol as well people around him. In this paper an attempt is made to examine the current pattern of consumption of alcohol, determinants of its demand and supply, price elasticity of demand for alcohol and its policy implications in order to assist the decisions of government from demand and supply perspective.
